Mrs. Sarah De Bruin

Teacher

This is Mrs. De Bruin’s ninth year as an English and history teacher at LHJNA. In addition to serving as the faculty advisor for our chapter of the National Junior Honor and the National Honor Societies, she will be teaching a high school English class, a middle school study skills class, American Government, and Yearbook. Mrs. De Bruin holds a BA in Art History and French from SUNY Buffalo, a BS in Foreign Language Education from Buffalo State Teacher’s College, and an MEd in Reading Education from Towson University. She is currently pursuing certification from the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center as an Academic Language Therapist in order to gain the expertise needed to remediate dyslexia.

Ms. Olivia Flynn

Teacher

Ms. Flynn, a LHJNA alumni, is a returning teacher and will be an instructor for English, History, and Pre-Algebra. She has an extensive background in special needs from years of case and medical management in human services and as a special needs tutor. In human services, she also coached adults with disabilities to help attain employment while developing and teaching several employment focused classes. Ms. Flynn assists and instructs recreational scuba diving classes as a certified PADI professional. She has a BA in History from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

Mrs. Ana Galvan

Teacher

Mrs. Galvan is a returning staff member. Galvan has a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from Tarleton State University and is Bilingual Certified. Prior to joining LHJNA Mrs. Galvan taught in Charles County; before that, she taught elementary school in Texas. Mrs. Galvan joins us as our Spanish I and Spanish II teacher.

Mr. Michael Hallett

Teacher

This is Mr. Hallett’s thirteenth year at LHJNA. Mr. Hallett will teach Statistics and Geometry. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and served in various nuclear propulsion and surface warfare billets before retiring in 1989. He then taught secondary mathematics in California and Maryland for over twenty years. He holds a BS in Engineering, an MBA, and an MEd in instructional technology.

Mrs. Jeanne Pirtle

Teacher

Mrs. Pirtle is a returning teacher. She has taught English and Social Studies in public school, history and English at the college level, and worked over 11 years in museum education programming. In addition, she is a published author and has received several awards for exhibits and programming from Maryland Historical Trust and St. Mary’s County. She holds a BA in Social Sciences from Washington State University and a Master’s in teaching from Notre Dame of Maryland University. She teaches MS ELA, HS American Literature, HS British Literature, 8th grade American History and HS Current Issues.
